The Learning Confoederatio – Navigating (Digital) Change through Evidence
Under the theme “The Learning Confoederatio – Navigating (Digital) Change through Evidence,” the conference will bring together researchers, practitioners, and educators to explore how evidence‑based insights can help us understand and shape digital transformation in learning and instruction. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss cutting‑edge research, share best practices in instructional design and technology‑enhanced learning, and reflect on how digital change can be navigated in diverse educational contexts.
Set against the vibrant backdrop of Zurich, a city known for its blend of tradition and innovation, the conference venues include the university’s main campus and nearby facilities. Attendees can look forward to engaging keynotes, thematic sessions, and networking events, all framed by the beautiful Swiss surroundings.
We invite you to join us in Zurich in August 2026 to exchange ideas, connect with colleagues, and experience Swiss hospitality while shaping the future of learning together.
The submission platform for the 2026 joint EARLI SIG 6&7 conference is now open!
Before submitting your proposal, please check the different possible formats below, as well as the submission guidelines.
Once this is done, please connect to the EARLI platform to submit your proposal (User Dashboard > My Submissions > New Submission). Please note that:
The review criteria and acceptance rates for the conference, presented during the 2025 members' meeting, are accessible here.
The selection criteria and evaluation process for the JURE awards follow those implemented in the 2024 Conference, and is available here.
Review Guidelines and Tresholds
Symposia include four closely related single papers (12 minutes of presentation and 3 minutes for clarification questions) followed by a discussion by the discussant (10 minutes) and an exchange with the audience (15 minutes). Multiple time slots are already reserved for this presentation format. The contributions should come from at least two countries (the contribution of a discussant counts as an additional country) and three institutions. The overall proposal should include a general description (see the symposium requirements) and outline the context in which the four contributions will be discussed—the paper contributions, presented in the single paper format.
Please prepare your proposal in accordance with the submission guidelines.
This format allows researchers to present their empirical OR theoretical work. Possible contributions to “Theoretical Work” can be theoretical or conceptual reviews or contributions to theory development. Presentations have a duration of 15 minutes (12 minutes of presentation and 3 minutes of discussion).
Please prepare your proposal in accordance with the submission guidelines.
We plan for lengthy poster sessions with a large audience. Each poster presentation includes creating a 2-minute elevator pitch, which must be available online (via QR code on the poster) and can also be delivered in person at the poster. The poster will be attached to a poster wall (DIN A0) for a full conference day. There is a dedicated spot (60-minute poster session) to personally present and discuss your poster to/with the community.
Please prepare your proposal in accordance with the submission guidelines.
This format allows presenters to present and discuss empirical work at an early stage (research ideas or work in progress). Presentations last 15 minutes (8 minutes of presentations and 7 minutes of discussion).
Please prepare your proposal in accordance with the submission guidelines.
Tool and Educational Technology Demonstrations allow presenters to display, explain, and familiarize users with a potentially practical teaching or research tool OR a software designed specifically for teaching and learning (i.e., Educational Technology). The presentation may include references to completed research, but the point of the session is to demonstrate the tool/technology (Do not present empirical research with it).
Please prepare your proposal in accordance with the submission guidelines.

The 2026 joint EARLI SIG 6 & 7 conference will be held for three full days from August 10th until August 12th, with up to four parallel sessions.
Sessions will start each day at 9:00 (with coffee available from 8:30).
The registration desk will open Sunday afternoon, as will the first of the JURE events!
Take a look at the preliminary program layout for more information!
August 9 | 14:00–17:00 – Picnic in Nature (Zurich)
Kick off the conference with an easygoing afternoon outdoors filled with fresh air, good conversations, and informal networking in a green Zurich setting.
We will gather at one of two stunning nature‑based locations in Zurich, offering a calm and open space to connect with early-career researchers, exchange ideas, and start building your conference network—without presentations, schedules, or timers. Whether this is your first EARLI conference or you are already familiar with the community, this picnic is a great way to break the ice and ease into the conference experience. The lunch contribution will be up to 5 CHF.
As Zurich’s weather can be unpredictable, we have two possible locations in mind (both within the city). The final venue will be selected based on the forecast, and all registered participants will be informed shortly before the event.
No preparation required, just your curiosity, picnic spirit, and your enthusiasm to connect.
August 13 | 09:00–14:00 – Hike Along Lake Zurich for All Levels (led by a Swiss researcher)
End the conference on a high note with a scenic hike along Lake Zurich—perfect for reflecting on the conference, continuing conversations with junior researchers, and enjoying Switzerland’s natural beauty.
This guided hike offers a relaxed opportunity to connect with fellow junior researchers while taking in the picturesque lakeside landscape. The route will be flexible and accessible to all levels, and thanks to Switzerland’s efficient public transportation system, there are easy return options to Zurich at multiple points along the way.
Transportation: Upon request, we can organize group train tickets to reach the starting point. Return tickets (train or ferry) should be managed independently by participants.
For JURE‑related questions, please contact Charleen Brand (SIG 6 JURE Assistant Coordinator) at cbrand@ethz.ch or Diana Pak (SIG 7 JURE Assistant Coordinator) at diana.pak@ife.uzh.ch.
Registration will be open on May 1 - See Figure -->
Note. Catering during the conference day, coffee breaks, and lunch tickets are included in the registration fees. Social events must be booked separately.
For all JURE events and the city tour tickets, an additional booking possibility will be announced.

Our Partner, Kuoni Tumlare, provided us with a Hotel Booking Website that lets you book your accommodation while in Zurich.
As an alternative to hotels and youth hostels, we started a Discord to organize a “Bed Market”: https://discord.gg/zCBdQwn37W
The Idea of the Bed Market is to connect locals who may offer a bed or room in their flats or houses with guests who need one. Each connection is based on a private agreement. SIG coordinators only provide an online room for mutual interests.
