      Keynote prof. dr. Marlit Lindner - Enhancing Educational Assessment Through Multimedia Design and Computer-Based Feedback

      In the past decades, the digital transformation has opened up exciting new opportunities for elevating the delivery of educational assessments and test item design. We observe a trend towards the use of multimedia-enhanced items and a growing importance of automated performance feedback in digital learning environments and classroom assessments. However, our understanding of the impact of different design choices remains limited. In this keynote, I will present results from several years of experimental research, focusing on the effects of multimedia design and automated feedback on test takers’ cognitive, metacognitive, and affective-motivational outcomes. This includes exploring how assessment design may influence test-taker engagement and task processing, as reflected by eye-tracking data. Possible interactions between design choices and student characteristics are discussed in light of more inclusive assessments. Finally, I will reflect on implications for practice and future research, taking into account the unleashed potential of generative AI. This session takes place in the Auditorium (Room U.0.2.) on the ground floor of the U-building.

      Keynote prof. dr. Ernesto Panadero - In pursuit

      Educational assessment serves three primary purposes: certification, summative, and formative. Over the years, our EARLI SIG has shifted its focus almost exclusively towards classroom assessment and formative purposes. Additionally, recent trends in the field of feedback, such as feedback uptake and feedback literacy, are also emphasizing formative approaches that place the learner at the center. This raises several questions: Are we circling back to the practices of the 90s, such as self and peer assessment? Are we effectively addressing the gaps that required attention in these fields? How well do we understand the learning and instructional processes surrounding classroom assessment that prioritize the student's role in the learning process? This session takes place in the Auditorium (Room U.0.2.) on the ground floor of the U-building.
