Mission Statement

Our main aim is to build capacity in theory in EARLI. We start from the assumption that good research needs high quality theory and theorising as well as high quality designs and techniques. As a SIG we provide opportunities to explore and develop theories and traditions of theorising that impact on educational research. One of our aims as a community is to investigate the relationship between theory and the quality of research in the field of learning and Instruction.

There is a particular focus in the SIG on providing opportunities for early career researchers to learn from others, build networks and find an avenue for publication. The SIG will facilitate focused interaction between experienced and early career researchers.

A further ambition of the SIG is to participate in expanding EARLI to make it more attractive to high quality educational researchers focusing on the theory of education who currently might not feel ‘at home' in EARLI.
